Taking Care of Your Wedding Dress

Your wedding day is full of wonderful memories and with all of the hustle and bustle surrounding the big day, it will often come and go in a flash. Once you’re home and the whirlwind has died down, there’ll be a few things to take care of.

Before you begin writing thank you cards, swapping photos and sharing memories, take a moment to decide what to do with your wedding dress. For today’s post, we discuss top tips for taking care of your dress so you can preserve it in the best condition after the big day.

Dry Cleaning

Of course, not everyone can have their dress dry cleaned in the recommended 24-48 hour window after the wedding. However, when you return home, try to aim to have your dress dry cleaned as soon as possible.

In many cases, your wedding dress may look pristine, however, common stains that aren’t always visible include, sweat, makeup, perfume, food and drinks.

If your dress can’t be dry cleaned within a couple of days of you returning home, your best option will be to place your dress in a cloth garment bag to allow the fabric to breathe.

Storage

Once your dress has been professionally cleaned, your next step in preserving your dress will come down to storage.

Consider investing in acid-free storage boxes and/or tissue paper to store your dress. Once neatly packed, keep your dress in a dimly lit place, such as a wardrobe and away from direct light or damp. If you are keeping your dress hung, rather than in a box, be sure to store it in a garment bag to and away from other items of clothing that could cause friction.
